a minimal, weighted can crusher designed for a woman who wanted beautiful appliances — not an eyesore
Our client — a woman in her mid-30s — wanted a can crusher that matched her kitchen appliances. The standard crushers on the market are plastic, utilitarian, ugly. She wanted something she'd actually leave on the counter. The constraints: safe to use, no sharp edges, give the satisfying tactile feel of crushing a can with your hands, but make it effortless. Our solution: a solid wood press with an embedded weight inside the plunger — the mass does the work, so even a light press collapses the can. Black stain + brushed silver finish to match her kitchen.
Modelled in SolidWorks, then fabricated entirely in wood — stained black with a steel insert on the plunger face for that silver kitchen-appliance finish.
