a 3D interactive mill & lathe training experience — built in one hackathon sprint, won first place
The Stanford Designation Designathon challenged teams to build a functional digital prototype in one sprint. Our prompt: make machining education more accessible. We built MaDEitAll — an interactive web experience where users learn to operate a manual lathe and mill step by step, with annotated 3D models they can rotate, zoom, and interact with. No jargon. No fluff. Just hands-on guidance, digitized.
MaDEitAll walks users through every step of making a part on a manual lathe — from raw stock selection to finishing pass. The 3D machine models are fully interactive: click hotspots to learn component names, follow step-by-step manufacturing instructions, and inspect the finished part geometry. Built entirely in Spline with custom UI design.
