an accessible bag hook for a student who needed one that actually worked for him
Our user at Julia S. Molloy School has supinated wrists and limited shoulder mobility. Standard school hooks were mounted too high to reach and sat too close to the wall — his wrists would hit the surface on every attempt. We designed a height-adjustable, extended-clearance hook he could operate with one hand.
Everything fabricated in-house at Northwestern — wood milled, shaped, and stained. Only the spring toggle pin was sourced externally.
Every prototype was tested directly with the student and his teacher. Each round surfaced something new — wrist clearance, latch force, mounting stability.
